Welcome to South Wales Baptist College. We hope that one of our courses will help equip you for serving God more effectively.

Heading in the direction of ordained ministry?

The College welcomes women and men preparing for various forms of Christian ministry, with a particular emphasis upon people preparing for ordained ministry within the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the Baptist Union of Wales.

If you sense that this is what God may be calling you to, then you can find out more by clicking on the Ministerial Recognition tab.

Exploring God’s plan?

Studying at SWBC as an Open Option student offers a way of deepening your understanding of Christian faith as you explore God’s guidance for the future. SWBC is a Christian learning community, which provides a stimulating and supportive environment for you to grow and develop as you discern more of God’s plans and purposes. The Undergraduate courses tab describes some of the courses the college is able to offer.

Recognised training?

All believers are called to a life-long process of learning and discipleship. The college’s Pathways course, starting early in 2014, offers an accessible way of deepening your knowledge of the Bible and theology. It also provides a recognised form of training for people who are (or who hope to become) recognised preachers and local pastors. For more information about a course which can aid your spiritual growth, and help you prepare for more effective Christian service, please click on the Lay Training tab.

In-service training?

In partnership with St Michael’s College and Cardiff University the college offers places for people who want to study theology at Master’s level. Within the MTh course there are pathways in Biblical Studies, Christian Doctrine, Church History and Practical Theology. These can form a valuable part of continuing professional development not only for people involved in ordained ministry but for Christians who want help in reflecting critically upon the issues that arise in the course of their life and work.

To help make these Master’s courses more accessible they are delivered on a part-time basis. A part-time postgraduate Certificate in Theology is also available. Information about these courses can be found via the Postgraduate tab.

The college also works closely with Newly Accredited Ministers who continue with  flexible courses of study during the first few years after Ordination.

The college is also available to assist ministers who are looking for a place to study during a sabbatical.
